Economic Justice Fund Launches Credit-Building Initiative

Sacramento, Calif. (July 5, 2023) – Today, the Economic Justice Fund (EJF) launched a new Credit-Building Initiative to empower its current and future borrowers financially. Establishing and building a good credit history is crucial in today’s economy. All EJF borrowers will benefit as their monthly loan payments become an opportunity to build positive credit history. This will support borrowers to secure more affordable financial products as they build credit and access needed financing for housing, education, or entrepreneurship.

The Economic Justice Fund now reports borrower loan data to the major Consumer Reporting Agencies, which include Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. This is supported by EJF’s implementation of the Credit Builders Alliance Reporter (“CBA Reporter”), which provides a unique and vital link to the credit bureaus, and supports EJF’s commitment to reporting consumer data accurately and to utilizing Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) best practices.

Through EJF’s Credit-Building Initiative, applicants are not required to have a minimum credit score for loan approval. But applicants must be employed or have documentation of monthly income, demonstrate a recent history of on-time payments and have enough income to make monthly loan payments.

The Credit-Building Initiative offers fair and affordable loans tailored to meet the needs of a wide range of borrowers. All loans offer the following features:

  • Free credit reporting to the major Consumer Reporting Agencies
  • Fee-free financing—no application fees, no origination fees, no servicing fees, and no prepayment fees
  • Low, fixed interest rates start at 7.9%
  • Flexible terms ranging from 12 to 60 months
  • Flexible underwriting standards that allow EJF to approve borrowers that traditional lenders do not
  • Complimentary ACH disbursements that enable next-day available funds
  • Automatic recurring monthly loan payments

Applying only takes minutes and won’t affect your credit score. To apply for a loan through EJF’s Credit-Building Initiative, please visit www.economicjusticefund.org/apply.
